Sanjay Dutt plays the head of the family and strongly objects to the relationship between Alia and Varun. The film is an inter-faith love story with Alia Bhatt's Hindu character falling in love with a Muslim boy played by Varun Dhawan, a love that causes major upheaval especially because Alia is shown to be getting married to Aditya Roy Kapur, who is on the other hand, also in love with Sonakshi Sinha's character.
